1500/2500 & VISTA

ICOM PCR/R 1500 & 2500

RadioCom 6 Installation

I installed the R2500 on a Vista PC and had my problems until I realized: I DID NOT READ THE ICOM INSTRUCTION MANUAL!  Everything is explained.

Having problems installing RadioCom on a Vista machine?

Make sure that you have FULL administrator rights!

RadioCom® is looking for the ICOM-USB driver for correct installation.

Read the following pages in the ICOM Instruction Manual again:

  • page 106:  Audio setting screen

  • page 107: Beep settings

  • pages 108++ : When playing through the computer's speaker

  • page 127: INTERNAL AUDIO SWITCH

  • page128 USB port setting

  • page  129: USB audio setting

However, we noticed that sometimes VISTA installs its generic driver and overrides the ICOM driver.

Remember the instructions coming with RadioCom: always install the ICOM software first before installing the RadioCom software.

So, in case of a problem: reinstall the ICOM driver. Make sure the audio settings are correct...see above! Thereafter install RadioCom.

Double-check the sound card setting in Windows: RadioCom uses the generic sound card, not ICOM's USB sound card.

Remember: if you have an on-board sound card and an ad-in sound card that you will have 'three' sound cards now, after installation of the ICOM software.

Never change the USB-port:

"The IC-R2500 is attached to the USB port on your PC. For some reason the audio codec in the PC system set-up always seems to default to the standard USB Audio Codec, and this occurs every time the ICOM receiver software starts up. What you need to do is download the latest Receiver Firmware and Software from ICOM (04/30/2008  http://www.icom.co.jp/world/support/download/firm/index.html )

Once you have done this, you should install the updates in the following order;

First of all install the latest firmware for the receiver, then install the latest interface software drivers for the PC. Finally I would recommend reinstalling your audio. Please note that you MUST ALWAYS use the same USB port for the IC-R2500 as the software seems to only configure that specific USB port that the receiver is attached to. If you use another port, then the audio codec will again revert back to the USB Audio Codec and start cutting out again."

RadioCom 6 Installation

with some extra information for the
PCR/R 1500 / 2500

Thank you very much for choosing this BONITO product. This new generation of software will give you many attractive features in the World of HAM Radio. Though user friendly, this technology is sophisticated and some features may be new to you. This quick install guide will give you the information to setup your hardware and software.

Before installing the new  version of RadioCom  6.02,
please make sure that ALL demo-versions are uninstalled FIRST.

Basic requirements:

Internet connection.
An operating system (32 bit): Windows 2000 / XP or Vista.
An IBM compatible PC with Intel® Pentium III- CPU 450 MHz or better with 256MB RAM and better.
Other minimum requirements are stipulated by the operating system.

First Steps (IMPORTANT):

  • The ICOM software must be installed first.

  • Please read the ICOM PCR/R 1500 / 2500 manual thoroughly  and follow ALL the instructions during the installation of the ICOM software. For Windows XP/Vista user is it important to install the ICOM-driver from the ICOM-CD and not the XP or Vista driver or something from the Internet!!! Those drivers do not provide all the important information which is needed to identify your radio.

  • Connect  the  PCR/R 1500 / 2500 radio
If you have an amplified antenna please connect it in the proper way.

  • During the successful installation, the ICOM drivers change the sound card settings and you can’t hear other audio anymore from other programs. To change it back to the default, go to standard settings:
[Start] [Settings\Control Panel] [Sounds and Audio Devices]
Click “AUDIO” and under “Sound Playback”
choose the default sound card of the PC and do the same with “Sound Recording”.
(the "USB Audio" is used by the ICOM software only).

  • Read the following pages in the ICOM Instruction Manual:

    • page 106:  Audio setting screen

    • page 107: Beep settings

    • pages 108++ : When playing through the computer's speaker

    • page 127: INTERNAL AUDIO SWITCH

    • page128 USB port setting

    • page  129: USB audio setting

  • Exit the ICOM software.

  • Install the switchbox RC-HAM  to a free serial port. Make sure no other program is reserving this port. If you have no free serial port, please use a serial-to-USB-converter. Check if you have the latest driver for your operating system.

  • Turn OFF your computer and wait a minute or two before you turn the PC on again. Wait untill ypour PC is fully booted. That may take some time, too. Watch the hard drive LED, it should not blink anymore, or very little.

  • Do NOT run any other programs (you know: the WINDOWS® disclaimer...)

  • Turn the radio ON. Your PC should beep three times that it found the radio. Check that the default audio card is in use.

  •  Insert the RadioCom CD. An information page and the install program will open automatically. Please follow the instructions on this info site before installing the RadioCom software.

DO NOT USE THE ICOM SOFTWARE WHILE USING RadioCom!!!

Internet Connection
Connect your computer to the Internet.

The following steps will help you to install the program:

Installing the program:
After inserting the CD-ROM the auto start will  display the "Install Program" and will show you the "CD-Key" automatically. The "CD-Key" is pre-programmed on the CD and is absolutely unique.

The window for RadioCom 6 looks about the same. (I will change that in the near future)

It also has setups for the switchbox and the second radio.

Select your radio from the „Radio Selection“ list.
Please remember that there is a difference between IC-PCR1500 and R1500. & 25000

With „COM-port Selection“ you can select the correct COM-port, in case RadioCom was not able to find your radio and displays an error message. „Find serial port“ will prompt RadioCom to search for the radio. „Test serial port“ enables you to test the connectivity of the COM-port. „Select serial port“ assigns a specific COM-port number to a particular device.

RadioCom Setup
The installation program is capable of doing even more. If you should ever have to reinstall or update RadioCom 6 via the Internet, you don’t always have to insert the CD. You can open the RadioCom Setup program.
You’ll find the RadioCom Setup here:
[Start] [(All) Programs] [Bonito RC6] [Setup RadioCom]

Update service (after registration): You can update RadioCom via the Internet by pressing the “Update” button. RadioCom automatically downloads the required updates and installs them.

Before you can update the software you have to install it  and you have to register online.

You will find the following buttons in the install window:

  • "Install"

For installation and reinstallation
  • "Update"
For software-updates via the Internet
  • "Uninstall"

Uninstalls the program from your hard drive
  • "Registry"

On-line registration (required to use the program)

Installation
Click on  „Install“ to install RadioCom to your hard drive.
After a successful installation you will have a new icon on the main desktop.

Registration:

I
nternet Registration + Update/Data-Service
You have to register on-line before you can use the program.  Click “Update” and the following window appears (InterNet Registration):.
We suggest that you fill in all fields. The information provided will be your customer ID and passwords. Make sure you are using a valid/ working email address.
Then click on “Registry” to confirm/ register.  You will receive an email from BONITO confirming your registration. Save this email. You will need the information in case of a manual registration/ reactivation after a 'melt-down' of your hard drive.

Without proper registration we will be unable to assist in case of a problem.

The computer saves the access codes in the Windows registry, too. You can see, copy or save-keep it to a floppy, etc. (DO NOT manipulate the Windows' registry if you do not know what you are doing!!).

The 'suffix' changes after each Internet update. This is important to remember if you uninstall the program or operate it on several computers.

If you receive  the error message "SUFFIX_OPEN_ERR" the manual registration  must be used  and the access codes must be entered manually. The initial registration via the Internet works once only. If you should have lost the 'suffix', it is possible to use a default suffix in order to eliminate this error message.. However, this works  8 times within a 90 days period only!

So, make a hard copy of the email from BONITO with the details of your initial registration.

In other words: you can install the software on different computers, but only together with the switchbox  and by following the manual registration process.

Updates and Upgrades
The program is setup in such a way, that later updates will extend and expand the basic functions. Provided are  receiving programs, analyzing tools for the radio data decoding and new functions.
