FAQ-Help

I know, this would never happen to you:

First of all I did everything that you instructed me to and it worked---all except that I could not control the radio from my computer........after three hours on my lawn mower, I came back and after much searching, found the remote plug in the wrong port in the back of my radio.  Switched it out and now all is well.   Thanks again for all your help.

or

I am using a Kenwood TS2000 and a USB serial converter.
As soon as I select the radio from the list it shows an error about switch box. When I select the com port and everything test OK, the red error message does not disappear.

well, it turned out that the RC-HAM switchbox was still in the box and NOT connected to the computer.

    • Microsoft ActiveSync provides support for synchronizing data between a Windows-based desktop computer and Windows Embedded CE-based devices. Using time stamps and user preferences, the synchronization process tracks data changes on both computers, then transfers the appropriate data so that each machine has the most-recent versions. Outdated or unwanted data is discarded. CE 6.0 provides support for ActiveSync version 4.2 and later.

The default setting of ActiveSync reserves COM1. Disable this setting in ActiveSync.

    • Security Update for Microsoft Data Access Components

      November 20, 2002

      Why is this update needed?

An identified security vulnerability could allow an attacker to compromise Microsoft® Windows®-based systems and then take any of a variety of actions, such as changing Web pages or reformatting your hard disk. You can help eliminate this issue by installing this update from Microsoft.

Who needs to apply this update?

Anyone using Microsoft Windows 2000, Windows Me, Windows 98 SE, Windows 98, or Windows NT® 4.0 needs the update. Windows XP is not affected by this issue. At greatest risk are systems that operate Web sites using Microsoft Internet Information Services (IIS) and anyone who browses the Web using Microsoft Internet Explorer.

Two types of computers are at particular risk. If either of the following describes your computer, you should install the patch immediately:

      • Computers that are used to browse the Web or read e-mail. Most workstations and laptop computers fall into this category.
      • Computers that host Web sites using IIS.

Which versions are eligible for the update?

Updates are available for the following product versions. Earlier versions than those listed below are no longer supported and may or may not be affected by the vulnerability:

      • Windows NT® 4.0, Windows 98, Windows Me, Windows 2000
      • Microsoft Data Access Components (MDAC) 2.1, 2.5, 2.6
      • Internet Explorer 5.01, 5.5, 6.0

      Next Steps

Ready to install the update? Choose the appropriate next step for you:

      Do I need this update?

To determine if you need this update:

      1. On the taskbar at the bottom of your screen, click Start, then click Run.
      2. In the Run dialog box, type Winver and click OK.
A dialog box displays the version of Windows your computer is running.
      3. Click OK to close the dialog box.

If you are running Windows 98, Windows Millennium, Windows NT 4.0, or Windows 2000, you need to install this patch. If you are running Windows XP, you do not need the patch.

  • USB / Serial adaptors
    • If possible use a PCMCIA serial card
    • not all USB to Serial Port Adaptors will work. Use at your own risk. Some of the products on the market are not fully WINDOWS compatible or too slow. Also, a HUB may be the cause.
    • All BONITO software, since 2002, will work with USB-Serial Adapters.

      • The software is waiting about 5 to 7 seconds for an answer from this device and is looking for COM 1 to16.

      • Check, if  your COM-port is blocked by another application like mobile phone or PDA Software.

      • Please select the Standard Settings for your COM-port.

  • Windows ME (3/2004)
    • Cord, The program is working fine.  I had to reformat my hard drive and reinstall Windows ME.
I realized that ME is limited to how much it can handle. I saw this when I was using the Portmon that you suggested to try.  So to make things short, I stripped the computer down to bare basics.  I checked my bios and you were right.  Windows Me is really a cross between Windows 98 and Windows 2000. In any case it may be good to warn those with Me or older to keep their computers as basic as possible, it may save a lot of problems later. Thanks, Rich                                                                        TOP
  • PC hardware problems 6/2004
    • June 26, 2004 Dear Sir,
      Last Year I bought a Icom pcr1000 with radiocom 4.5 from G....E...
I was using radiocom 4.5 on a older computer running Windows 98 second edition and radiocom ran flawlessly.
I purchased a new computer and installed my radiocom 4.5 onto it but ran into nothing but pure problems with radiocom.
On my new computer, RadioCom takes a long time to boot up then becomes unresponsive and to shut down radiocom I have to use the task monitor.
My new computer is a e-machines 2.7 gig running windows XP home edition.
      June 28, 2004  Hello Cord,
Yes I did. Had a problem with my new computer. Took it back to Best Buy and they fixed it up for me. The warranty paid off. They had to reformat my hard drive. I found out that a CD burning program that I use on windows 98 did NOT like XP.
Have not yet tried to install radiocom yet but I'll let you know.

      June 29,2004   Cord,

Hey guy after the reformatting I reinstalled radiocom 4.5 and it works great! I don't know what went wrong.                                                                                    TOP

  • PC hardware problems (3/2003)
Cord:
After trying to drive you and me nuts, I decided to rid myself of my 333
computer.
In the past week I built a 2GHZ Intel on Intel motherboard computer with
512M of ram, two audio cards, two video cards, 100 Giga bytes of Hard Drive
along with two printer ports, 4 USB ports and three serial ports powered by
a 800 watt power supply. With this new unit I'm able to run Icom software
over Icom equipment. Radio Com 4.0 and 4.5 run an Icom 746 and RPC-1000.
...................... The man knows how to write software.  ....................
The old computer had USB issues and one serial port defective. None of the
problems were clear until we took it ALL a part.                                     TOP

  • Sound card ASIO driver

ASIO= Audio Stream Input Output. An ASIO driver offers lower latency and higher bit depths. That is critical to get maximum performance from your radio. However, not all sound cards come with native ASIO drivers.

Make sure the ASIO-program has selected your sound card after installation.

  •  WINDOWS UPDATES   9/2006

A few days ago a PC with WINDOWS HOME (about 18 months old) came in for repair: would not boot, no safe recovery, no safe boot. Nothing would make it boot, it always returned to the boot menu. (well, I got it going with the good old CHKDSK...a few files were corrupt  --- thus no boot.)

However, the point is as follows: This PC had never seen any WINDOWS UPDATES within its 18 months of life!!! Not even SR2!!!!

Please run those free UPDATES and follow WINDOWS recommendations. Update the latest drivers for your hardware, too.

  •  UPS (uninterruptible power supply)  COM-port not found     (March 2007)

got a new PC with WINDOWS-XP-Home installed. None of my programs could detect the only COM port, not even utility programs. The Hardware Setup in WIN-XP Device Manager showed the COM port correctly. I could change the settings, but the regular programs still could not find this serial port.

I can't remember why I checked the settings for Power Options. It was set to APC-UPS and COM1 although I was running the APC PowerChute program (which comes with the hardware) on one of the USB-ports. I changed the settings in Power Options to [NONE] and rebooted the PC.

Now, all programs can find COM1 again. And APC PowerChute continues to work normal on its USB-port.

  •  USB radios (IC R1500, etc; WinRADiO.....
    • I use my IC-R2500 a lot for decoding data on the HF bands. However I had to reinstall windows. Ever since reinstalling the receiver whenever I run another program to decode after a couple of minutes my sound goes. I have no sound at all from the computer and I have to reboot.

The IC-R2500 is attached to the USB socket on your PC. For some reason the audio codec in the PC system set-up always seems to default to the standard USB Audio Codec, and this occurs every time the receiver software starts up. What you need to do is download the latest Receiver Firmware and Software from the following website:

      www.icom.co.jp

      Once you have done this, you should install the updates in the following order;

First of all install the latest firmware for the receiver, then install the latest interface software drivers for the PC. Finally I would recommend reinstalling your audio. Please note that you MUST ALWAYS use the same USB port for the IC-R2500 as the software seems to only configure that specific USB port that the receiver is attached to. If you use another port, then the audio codec will again revert back to the USB Audio Codec and start cutting out again.

  • Error: Access violation at 0x0059E7DC (tried to read from 0x00000026), program terminated
    • We are working on a major update with better compatibility with the new features in the different Windows operating systems, new radios like PMSDR, Elecraft K3, etc., and new features.
For customers who get the error message "Access violation" while starting RadioCom 6, (especially) in fresh Win XP SP3 versions, there is the following work around:
LINK unzip the file and copy the folder C:\Program Files\bonito and RC60 if there is an older file, simply overwrite it. This issue will be resolved  by the big update. It looks like MS has changed something in the printer part.  October 2009
