    W41PC

Are both the 10.7 MHz AND the 21.4 MHz inputs available on the W41PC (MK-II) card at the same time?

No, the W41PC (MK-II) card employs only one IF input, i.e. either a 10.7 MHz input or a 21.4 MHz input. One has to decide when purchasing which input is needed. The 10.7 MHz input is standard. If you request the 21.4 MHz option you will be charged an additional modification fee. If, at a later stage you wish to change the IF input frequency, this can be done by returning the card to WAVECOM for modification. In such an event you would have to pay shipping costs and a modification fee.

For the W41PC MK-II card the software version V5.0.00 or higher is required. May I use this version also for my W41PC card?

Yes, all future software releases will work on both cards the W41PC and the W41PC MK-II. The software version 5.0.00 only provides support for the new extra input (EXT-DEM) on the W41PC MK-II, and no extra functionality.

    Can I upgrade my W41PC card to a W41PC MK-II card?

No, the W41PC MK-II card is a revised hardware version. The new card is shorter in size and has different components built on. Except for the new EXT DEM input, the functionality is identical.

Why is my fast CPU at 100 percent utilization when I run the FFT mode?

For graphics intensive display mode (e.g. FFT), the PC uses as much processing power as is available to maximize the display rate. If there is more than one FFT display (i.e. from two or more W41PC cards), then these will share the available processing power. This will not adversely affect the operation of any other W41PC cards in the system.

The IF output of my receiver seems not to be suitable with 10.7 MHz IF input of the W41PC card. Is there any solution?

The 10.7 MHz IF output of an amateur receiver typically has a bandwidth of up to 500 kHz, and is intended for a spectrum analyzer. This bandwidth is too wide for the W41PC IF input.
A solution is a slight modification of the receiver, i.e. to build in a 455 kHz output. Please contact shoc for a rebuilding instruction.

What is the maximum number of W41PC cards that could be remotely controlled?

In theory, when accessing remote client cards, any number of cards may be controlled remotely from a single computer. There are, of course Windows™ resource limits, and network bandwidth limits that would limit the number of clients that can be connected simultaneously. For the average PC hardware, no more than eight simultaneous clients is the recommended maximum.

Why does connecting to a remote W41PC card sometimes take a long time?

Connecting to any W41PC card on the network may take up to two minutes. The wait cursor will appear while the connection is being made. The connection is made by Microsoft® DCOM, and any connection delay is the normal DCOM connection time.

My remote connection failed to succeed for more than 2 minutes. Why?

If you plan to connect to a card located in another PC, the W41PCServerControl or the W41PC software must be running on that PC.

What steps do I take to download the new W41PC software?

a.Click the V5.2.00 hyperlink. You will be asked to save the file to your disk. Just do it!
b.Start the downloaded W41_5200.EXE file. This will extract the files to the path of your choice. Click the Unzip button.
c.Windows™ 95 users must first install DCOM95, and Windows™ NT4.0 users must make sure Service Pack 4 (or higher) is installed. Just start setup.exe and follow the instructions. Good luck! Click here to download.

Do I have to uninstall my old W41PC software before installing the new version?

Yes, we recommend a proper uninstall procedure through the Windows™ setting functions before installing a new version.

Can I control the W41PC with shoc's "RadioManager"?

Not yet. Our interface is ready now, and shoc intends to ship the new "RadioManager" soon. Please contact shoc directly for further information.

Has the software been checked/updated to handle year 2000 issues?

Yes, it is Year 2000 compliant.

What should I do if a W41PC card needs repair?

Contact your local distributor to arrange returning of your card. If necessary, it will be forwarded to WAVECOM for repairs.

Could you recommend a few programs that is needed for the SMS feature?

Up to now we do not recommend any SMS software. Evaluation is in progress, and we will publish any recommendations on our web site as soon as available.
